Footprints of a Loving Father & Imprints of Gracious Mentors

As a growing girl, the life story of Dr. Ida Schudder (founder of CMC Vellore) impacted and shaped my ambitions – To be a vessel for God’s glory without actually going to a ‘Mission Field’.

When I joined the Reserve Bank of India in January 2000 I felt   elated, confused and overwhelmed at the same time. Brought up in a remote village and schooled in a Govt LP school, brought up in the secluded environs of a sheltered Christian upbringing, in my job, navigating the secular world with its complicated dynamics and balancing it with Christian values was overwhelming for me.

After the initial induction at Chennai and a brief familiarization at Kolkata (then Calcutta), I was posted to Guwahati Office.

God, in His grace and mercy knew I needed a grounded foundation and brought me to Guwahati where I started off in my career.  This was providential as apart from its nearness to home and a relatively familiar culture, I had the privilege of being mentored by Lucy & Pau (I call them as U Pau & U Dimnu). It was during this phase that we started a house Bible Study Group with like-minded colleagues under the guidance of U Pau & U Dimnu. I vividly recall the first Bible study led by U Pau based on three often repeated parables viz, the Lost Sheep, the Lost Coin and The Lost Son taken from Luke 15. This planted the seed of opening my home and using my work-life for His glory. When I left Guwahati on transfer three years later in 2004, I was sent off and prayed upon with Isaiah 40: 31”but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (NIV)

God alone knows how much I needed this verse. Since then I have been running without growing weary nor faint. As I negotiated the culture of RBI, I used to wonder whether it’s possible to be a practising Christian and be successful in career too. I faced professional challenges in many ways one of which been made a scapegoat of the system which almost cost me one of my promotions. When I thought I was finished, I found myself soaring.

Pre 2010 Mumbai, the city I then dreaded the most, the city I equated with Sodom and Gomorrah, now stands out as a place of refuge both personally and professionally. I so needed tangible manifestations that it is possible to be a practising, vibrant, Bible believing Christian in this environment. At this juncture, I came in contact with three officers in the Top Management cadre who were known for their Christian values and admired for their professionalism. I also got introduced to the Bombay Baptist Church (BBC) Colaba, a vibrant Faith-based Church whose vision is ‘People are Important’.

Today, 20 years after I joined the Reserve Bank and 17 years after I left Guwahati, I am leading two cell groups (one in workplace and another at my home), teaching in the Sunday School and dabbling with lay counselling. The ‘seed’ sown in Guwahati is growing and hopefully will thrive and yield much harvest.

As I journey on and occasionally look back, I am pleasantly surprised to see the footprints of the One who knows what I needed and placed my ‘Gracious Mentors’ along my path when I needed it the most.

 Why I support ELIM RESOURCE?

Honestly!

No, it’s not gratitude. It’s a privilege.

When Elim Resource Centre started in….. there was no doubt about my supporting it. It was that opportunity for me and my family (well God blessed me with a loving husband and three wonderful children) to be a part of the Kingdom along with my Gracious Mentors in equipping Spiritual leaders of North-East India. The spiritual mentoring of U Pau & U Dimnu and observing their lives so closely left lasting impressions. My close association with U Dimnu, heart-to-heart discussions, their availability at all times and accepting me with all my short-comings and mistakes included, forged a binding relationship. I know my earthly minuscule mite is not only safe and secure but is reaping rich benefits which is only possible in His gracious hands.

To be a resource to the RESOURCE is a privileged opportunity.
